Who is Lawrence Bishnoi? Why he wants to kill Salman khan? Detailed article

On October 3, 1996, Nihal Chand Bishnoi from Bikaner suddenly learned that Hunters had killed six deer in his village. Upon hearing the news, Nihal Chand rushed to the hunting site with some villagers. They attacked the poachers to stop them, but the poachers started shooting at them. In the gunfire, Nihal Chand was severely injured but refused to leave the place where the dead deer lay. Ultimately, the poachers had to leave without the deer. A short while later, the injured Nihal Chand passed away. In 1999, the Indian government awarded him the Shaurya Chakra for his bravery, making him the first Indian to receive this honor without being in the military. While many outside the Bishnoi community may not be familiar with this story, it is well-known within the community.

The reason for sharing this story is linked to the recent developments surrounding Lawrence Bishnoi. Following the death of Baba Siddiqui, the name Lawrence Bishnoi has been on everyone’s lips. Bishnoi has stated that he will not forgive Salman Khan until he apologizes for the death of the black deer. Many people, especially those from outside Rajasthan, find it difficult to understand why killing a deer is such a significant issue. Some are even surprised by Lawrence’s anger. While some cultures may view the killing of animals as part of their tradition, the Bishnoi community treats animals with great reverence.

The Bishnoi community considers animals to be as valuable as humans. It is a community where women often care for orphaned animals. Guru Jambeshwar, the founder of the Bishnoi faith, instilled values in the community that emphasize sacrificing one’s life for the protection of trees and plants.

Before diving into the enmity between Lawrence Bishnoi and Salman Khan, let me share another story that highlights the significance of trees for the Bishnoi community. In Rajasthan, there is a sacred tree called the Khejri tree, which remains lush even in the arid desert. This tree is considered just as sacred as the black deer by the Bishnois. The event dates back to 1730, when Maharaja Jaisingh of Jodhpur needed wood for his palace and sent soldiers to cut down the Khejri trees in a village. Upon learning of this, a woman named Amrita Devi stood in front of the trees, challenging the soldiers that they would have to cut her neck before cutting down the trees. The soldiers killed Amrita Devi, and her three daughters, who came to save the trees, were also killed by 20 soldiers. Ultimately, 363 people sacrificed their lives that day to save that one tree.

Isn’t it surprising to hear of such a story where people willingly gave their lives to save a tree? It is unfortunate that after independence, historians have glorified tyrants like Aurangzeb but have failed to share such stories. If children in this country were made aware of these tales, they would learn that true bravery isn’t about conquering other states or killing for expansion, but rather being willing to sacrifice your life to save a plant or a creature.

The Conflict Between Lawrence Bishnoi and Salman Khan: A Detailed Overview

Returning to Lawrence Bishnoi, he claims that ever since he learned as a child that Salman Khan killed a black Buck in Jodhpur, he has wanted to take revenge. For those unaware of the events, it was in 1998 when Salman Khan was filming Hum Saath-Saath Hain with his co-stars near Jodhpur. One night, villagers heard gunfire. Upon investigating, they saw a vehicle and recognized Salman Khan inside it. Subsequent investigations revealed that two Chinkara and three black deer had been killed that night. An FIR was filed against Salman Khan by the Bishnoi community on October 2, and he was arrested but quickly released on bail.

The Bishnoi community’s anger stems from the fact that even after nearly 27 years, Salman Khan has only spent 18 days in jail for the case. Despite being sentenced, he remains on bail. In 2006, a trial court sentenced Salman Khan to five years in prison, but the Rajasthan High Court suspended the sentence in 2007. In July 2016, the High Court acquitted him of charges related to the killing of two Chinkara, and in 2017, he was also acquitted in another case. After 27 years, the Bishnoi community still awaits justice.

It is not surprising that in 2018, Lawrence Bishnoi declared that he would not let Salman Khan go free regarding the black deer case. Two years ago, in June 2022, Salman Khan’s father, Salim Khan, received a threatening letter while out for a morning walk. The letter stated that Salman Khan would meet the same fate as Siddhu Moosewala. In March 2023, Salman Khan received three threatening emails at his official address, clearly stating that he would be killed like Moosewala when he came to Jodhpur. Following that, Lawrence Bishnoi gave an interview from jail, stating that it has been his lifelong dream to kill Salman Khan. In April 2023, a man named Rocky also threatened to kill Salman Khan over the phone.

Salman Khan's Security Threats: Mumbai Police Investigate Shots Fired at Actor's Home

The situation escalated on April 14, 2024, when shooters fired at Salman Khan’s Galaxy apartment from motorcycles, targeting the balcony of his first-floor apartment. The incident took a shocking turn when Baba Siddiqui, a close friend of Salman Khan, was murdered shortly after. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for this murder, stating that anyone who assisted Salman Khan would be considered a target.

Baba Siddiqui was known for reconciling Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan at an Iftar party in 2013 and had helped Salman during his legal troubles in the past. With Baba Siddiqui’s death, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s confidence has surged, and Salman Khan’s safety has become a major concern for the Mumbai police. Salman has been avoiding public appearances, and the police have set up a watch outside his apartment, with around 40 officers stationed there.

Salim Khan mentioned in a TV interview that these threats have greatly affected their movement, preventing them from going out as freely as they once did. Following the threats, Salman Khan has also stopped waving to fans from his balcony.

Who is Lawrence Bishnoi?

This entire controversy has raised questions about who Lawrence Bishnoi is and how he became so powerful that he can orchestrate murders while being imprisoned. Born on February 12, 1993, in Fazilka, Punjab, Lawrence was initially very fair-skinned, leading his mother to name him Lawrence. His real name in police records is Satvinder Singh. Lawrence was interested in sports from a young age, particularly wrestling, and his father, a police officer, wanted him to become an IAS officer. After completing his schooling in Abohar, Lawrence moved to Chandigarh to study at DAV College.

During this time, he became interested in student politics and befriended Goldy, who is now based in Canada and works with Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang. Lawrence created a political party called the Student Organization of Punjab University and contested elections in 2011 but lost. Following this loss, he felt insulted, bought a revolver, and began confronting the gang that defeated him. Media reports suggest that Lawrence’s girlfriend was murdered by a rival gang, which further pushed him into a life of crime. He later befriended Sampat Nehra, the son of a police inspector, and together with Goldy, they established a crime syndicate in Punjab and Haryana, collaborating with gangsters like Kala Jathedi in Haryana and Jitendra Gogi in Delhi.

Lawrence began extorting money from bootleggers, drug smugglers, and businessmen. By 2014, he was arrested in Rajasthan and sent to Bharatpur jail. However, during a court appearance, he escaped from police custody. He was re-arrested in 2016 and has remained in jail since. Despite being imprisoned, he continues to operate his criminal activities from behind bars. On May 30, 2022, singer Siddhu Moosewala was murdered near his home, and it was later revealed that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was responsible.

On December 5, 2023, Sukhdev Gogamedi, the president of the National Rajput Karni Sena, was murdered at home, and the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility. Just days later, on April 14, 2024, two bikers fired five rounds at Salman Khan’s apartment. One bullet hit the wall of his home, and another went through the net into his drawing room. The shooters fled, leaving their motorcycles at the scene. Lawrence’s brother Anmol later took to social media to claim responsibility for this attack. The recent murder of Baba Siddiqui sent shockwaves across the nation.

Today, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has over 700 shooters and operates globally. They source weapons from abroad and maintain networks across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh. Lawrence extorts millions from businessmen, even while in custody, using connections from various prisons. The gang’s reach extends beyond India, operating through channels in Canada, the UK, the USA, and Dubai, receiving funding that reaches India via hawala networks. Lawrence’s gang has gained popularity on social media, using platforms like Instagram and YouTube to promote their threats and maintain a significant following.
