An extremely well-known Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter is Sanjay Leela Bhansali. On February 24, 1963, he was born in Mumbai, India. Bhansali’s excitement for filmmaking was encouraged at an early age by his family’s strong attachment to the film industry.Post his graduation, Bhansali entered the film business working as famed filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s assistant. In 1996, he made his directing debut with “Khamoshi: The Musical,” which was well-received by critics for its nuanced depiction of the life of a deaf and silent girl.

But Bhansali didn’t become well-known until his second movie, “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,” came out in 1999. Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Ajay Devgn starred in the hugely successful movie, which won him several honors. It included the expensive sets, detailed costumes, and soulful music that have come to define Bhansali’s style.

Hussain Zaidi’s book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai” has a segment that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s biographical crime film “Gangubai Kathiawadi” is based on. In the film, Alia Bhatt plays the lead character of Gangubai Kathiawad. The true story of Gangubai, a young girl from Kathiawad, Gujarat, who was sold into prostitution and went on to become one of the most powerful people in Mumbai’s underworld, is portrayed in “Gangubai Kathiawadi”.  
 
The film follows Gangubai’s path from her early hardships to her journey to popularity as a well-respected and powerful prostitute owner in Mumbai’s Kamathipura. Gangubai displays bravery, intelligence, and resiliency in the face of difficulties, gaining her reputation as the “Queen of Kamathipura.” 
 
Gangubai negotiates the complicated rules of the underworld throughout the movie, forming partners and facing obstacles to hold onto her position of authority. It also looks at how she interacts with different people, revealing both her cruel and brutal aspects. Gangubai’s rule is not without risk, though, as she is threatened by other groups and outside powers. She maintains her position in the face of numerous obstacles, displaying her courage and will.

The historical play “Padmaavat” narrates the tales of Queen Padmavati, King Ratan Singh, and the cruel king Alauddin Khilji.  
The story is centered on Queen Padmavati, a famous figure recognized for her courage and beauty. King Ratan Singh of Mewar, with whom she is wedded, adores her. As this is going on, ambitious Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi learns about Padmavati’s beauty and develops an obsession on having her. 
Khilji, driven by his ambition, assaults Mewar in an attempt to take Padmavati. Against impossible challenges, King Ratan Singh and his soldiers fight bravely to protect their kingdom. In the meantime, Padmavati and other female monarchs of the empire display their firm bravery and loyalty by choosing to self-sacrifice  rather than surrender to Khilji.  
The film focuses on themes of bravery, selflessness, and the strength of love in the face of difficulty. It also shows the conflict between two very different characters: the brutal and power-hungry Khilji and the noble and honorable Ratan Singh.  
“Padmaavat” is a wonderful visual representation of an epic story from Indian history, filled with beauty, romance, and drama. 

3.Bajirao Mastani

The historical romance film “Bajirao Mastani” is set in India in the eighteenth century. It centers on the romance between Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao and his first wife Kashibai, as well as his second wife Mastani.The narrative starts with Bajirao, a renowned military commander, being named the Maratha Empire’s Peshwa (Prime Minister). He falls completely in love with Mastani, the daughter of the Bundelkhand king, even though he is married to Kashibai. Tensions between the two families dramatically rise throughout the movie’s finale, setting up a terrible and heartbreaking ending. Ram and Leela’s love is unshakable and survives social and cultural barriers despite anything.

5. Guzaarish

The heartwarming Bollywood drama “Guzaarish” tackles the concepts of love, compassion, and the freedom to choose and be treated with dignity. Ethan has a strong relationship with Sofia D’Souza, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, his caregiver, during this period. Sofia becomes as his main support system and trustworthy, offering him companionship and emotional support 
Ethan’s journey becomes a memorial to the strength of friendship, love, and the human spirit as the court cases progress. The movie explores difficult moral and ethical issues related to the value of living life to the fullest, despite hardship, and the right to die. The moving and challenging movie “Guzaarish” questions social conventions and affirms the true worth and value of every person. 6. Saawariya

The primary characters struggle with their unsatisfied goals, social limitations, and the fallout from their decisions as the narrative progresses. The terrible ending of Devdas serves as a lesson on the damage that may result from arrogance, jealously, and love that is not genuine.

Bollywood’s romance drama “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” explores into the complexities of love, selflessness, and familial relationships. The movie tells the tale of Nandini, Sameer, and Vanraj, three people whose lives get caught in a web of heartache and love.  
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s character Nandini, a young Gujarati lady living in a traditional home, opens the story. She has tied the knot to her father’s choice, kind-hearted guy Vanraj (Ajay Devgn). But when Sameer-played by the gifted Italian musician Salman Khan-enters Nandini’s life, everything is thrown upside down. 
As love for one another grow, Nandini and Sameer embark on a passionate and emotional romance. They cannot control their feelings even if they are aware that their love is prohibited. Their joy is not long-lasting, though, as Nandini’s family finds out and forcibly breaks them apart.  
Nandini, who is devastated and heartbroken, consents to marry Vanraj out of responsibility and duty. Vanraj promises to uphold his duties as her spouse and encourage Nandini’s happiness, not realizing that she has affections for Sameer. 
After that, the movie follows Nandini, Sameer, and Vanraj as they work through the difficulties in their relationships and face their own feelings. Making tough decisions that would affect their whole life, Nandini finds herself divided between her loyalty to Vanraj and her confused feelings for Sameer.  
A moving and emotional journey, “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” highlights the strength of love and how far one would go to in order to protect those they care about. Its stunning performances and heartfelt music beautifully portray an everlasting story of affection, devotion, and forgiveness.

“Heeramandi- The diamond Baazar”, was released on 1st May. 2024 i.e on Wednesday .It’s  the first time that sanjay leela bhansali has released one of his Series on the OTT platform Netflix. People were already buzzing with excitement to watch it even before its release. There were numerous discussion in media about this highly anticipated series. 

This series took 14years to develop, explores into the history of Lahore, Pakistan’s “Diamond Market,” also known as Heera Mandi, a red-light area.  
Returning to Heeramandi’s past, the television series portrays the Mughal era and the pre-independence period, when women, mostly from Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, were brought to Heeramandi in order to entertain the Mughal emperors with Kathak dances. “Heeramandi,” which is set in the 1940s Indian liberation war, offers a mixture of power, love, retaliation, and the pursuit of freedom. Renowned performers like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Richa C. are among the cast 
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is an eight-part Netflix series that has been available in 190 countries and is helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
