In an interview with India Today in 2017, Kamal Hassan said one reason is Bollywood used to take two and half year for single film or they were working on six films together. So, it was difficult for him to maintain the character and he believes the importance of character-building for actors. Other reason he mentioned is film industries was reliance on black money and underworld connections as significant deterrents. I didn’t want to deal with that or be threatened by it. He preferred to build his career with integrity, even if it meant facing challenges. Kamal Haasan’s refusal to engage with black money in the film industry is a reflection of his strong ethical stance. He has always believed in transparent and legal means of financing his films, setting a high standard in the industry.
